VATICAN CITY, 30 SEP 2009 (VIS) - Pope Benedict's general prayer intention for October is: "That Sunday may be lived as the day on which Christians gather to celebrate the risen Lord, participating in the Eucharist".
His mission intention is: "That the entire People of God, to whom Christ entrusted the mandate to go and preach the Gospel to every creature, may eagerly assume their own missionary responsibility and consider it the highest service they can offer humanity".

Council 4721 to Cover 40 Days for Life
On October 16th, from 11 P.M Friday night to 4 or 5 A.M. Saturday Morning, Council 4721 will be covering the 40 Days for Life prayer garden in front of the Planned Parenthood in Tulsa. We need volunteers to cover these hours. Currently, we have 11 pm covered. Please email Lon with the time you will volunteer for.
St. Pius has signed up to cover the 24 hrs starting from October 16th, Friday morning 7 A.M. to October 17th, Saturday morning 7 A.M.
If you can help us from that would be great.
This fall, our community will once again be uniting with dozens of other cities across the U.S. for the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history – the 40 Days for Life campaign.
People of faith are praying that this effort will mark the beginning of the end of abortion.
40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life campaign that has generated measurable lifesaving results in more than 130 cities where it has been implemented. Some locations have reported as much as a 28% drop in local abortion numbers and hundreds of new people getting involved in local lifesaving ministry efforts. The 40 Days for Life campaign is made up of three key components:
- Prayer and Fasting: inviting people of faith throughout our city to join together for 40 days of fervent prayer and fasting for an end to abortion
- Peaceful Vigil: standing for life through a 40-day peaceful public witness outside Reproductive Services, the abortion facility in Tulsa at 6136 E 32nd Place
- Community Outreach: taking a positive, upbeat pro-life message to every corner of our city through media efforts, church presentations, petition drives and public visibility
Learn how you can “speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves” here in Tulsa by contacting campaign directors Erick Bell and Tracy Callicoat at (918) 307-4939 or familylife.office@dioceseoftulsa.org.

September Officer's Reports
Grand Knight's Report:
- Grand Knight’s Report: 1st Degree practice went well after the Officer’s Meeting. Feast Day went well Saturday night at St. Pius. Knights picked up the chairs on Sunday morning. District Officers’ meeting was conducted by our District Deputy. Would like to talk to members of the team after the meeting. We currently show that we have 186 members on our roster. We will be working on getting those all active and accounting for these members. Lon talked to Principal at Pius X, he will help with marketing our blood drives, pancake breakfasts, etc. in their school newsletters. This is a great opportunity for the Knights since it will get KofC information in the hands of younger parents.
- Chancellor’s Report – Beginning a Retention Committee. We are going to call all the members and try to bring them back into the Council. We will be talking to them and getting them involved. Without the retention chairman, the council cannot take a member off the rolls, even if he has not attended meetings or paid dues.

- We do need to get new members to replenish our ranks! Carry some form 100’s around with you! Give them out at Mass and Church activities. If you don’t have any, get two or three and keep them in the car.
- Encourage new members and transfers and make ourselves known.
- Knights of Columbus have given billions of hours giving to the community and the Church. We don’t have to do everything but, get members involved in one or two activities that they have not been active in before.

Abortion Mandate in Health Bill
Urgent Pro-Life Alert
July 22, 2009
Abortion mandate in health bill
The healthcare reform legislation currently before Congress contains an abortion mandate that is a grave threat to human life. The bill's language will result in federally mandated abortion coverage by nearly all health plans, recruitment of abortion doctors into local health networks, and the nullification of many state laws that place reasonable limits on abortion.
The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) has called this legislation the "largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade."
We urge you to write to your senators and congressman today. Click here where you can learn more about the health legislation and send a message to your two senators and congressman.
To read a letter from 19 House Democrats who insist they will not support a health bill unless it explicitly excludes abortion, click here .
Time is of the essence as congressional leaders want to pass the bill in the Senate and House by the end of July.
A coalition of prominent pro-life leaders have arranged a Stop The Abortion Mandate live webcast for the public this Thursday, July 23rd, 2009, at 9 PM Eastern (8PM Central, 7 PM Mountain, 6 PM Pacific).
Please go to www.stoptheabortionmandate.com to register.

From the Program Director, Bob Caruso
Blood Drive Our blood drive on July 19 at St Pius X was a great success! We set a new standard of donors (24) which was 33% more than our previous high.
Eleven Knights (J. Arroyo, Mike Canfield, Bob Caruso, Scott Collier, Bill Hull, Pat McAuliff, Tom Metzler, Jim Miller, Matt Soerries, Mike Soerries and Jim Williamson) donated as well as three Knight family members (Cheryl and Mike Hull and Susan Stackler).
We plan to build on this success and have an even better turnout at our next drive on September 27th.
Thank you all for your gift of life.
Veterans' Mass
Each month, a handful of 4721 Knights (Lon Unsell, Leroy Weismann, Paul Dudley and Bob Caruso) travel to Claremore to join several other council Knights and ladies to accompany VA Hospital Catholic veterans to mass.
Fr. Eichhoff of St. Cecilia is the celebrant and holds the service in the hospital’s chapel. The service is held at 9:30 on the second Thursday of each month. Some of these veterans have few outside visitors and are very appreciative of our visits. Contact any of the above members to join our carpool to Claremore.
